Kevin, thank you for writing on this topic. More importantly, thank you for writing from a deep well of experience and thoughtfulness. I personally found it refreshing to see you write about the importance of us singing songs that remind us what God thinks of us. I am not reformed myself… and in my experience, many of my reformed brothers and sisters seem skittish to the idea of singing songs that remind us who we are because of what Christ has done. They only want to sing songs that are “God focused.”

My issue with that is exactly what you said, it’s not a complete biblical concept. The psalms and the scriptures at large are chalked full of us needing both types of songs. I really appreciate your wisdom there.

I’d be curious if you would ever be willing to write on the topic of who writes our songs… the idea of not only are the lyrics of songs formative to our souls, but is there merit/value in who writes our songs? It’s something I’ve been wrestling with.

Thanks again for a very thoughtful piece. Following along.
